A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF ANDOVER, KANSAS FROM CERTAIN TERMS AND PROVISIONS OF SECTIONS 14-201 REQUIRING THAT THE POSITION OF CITY TREASURER BE ELECTED.

WHEREAS, the City of Andover, Kansas has been designated as a city of the second class; and

WHEREAS, the City of Andover, Kansas deems it advisable to exempt itself from the statutory requirement that the position of city treasurer be filled by election;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF ANDOVER, KANSAS:

SECTION 1. The City of Andover, Kansas, by virtue of the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to make inapplicable to it and exempts itself from those portions of K.S.A. 14-201 requiring that the position of city treasurer be filled by election and hereby adopts substitute and additional provisions on the same subject as hereinafter provided.

SECTION 2. The mayor shall appoint, by and with the consent of the council, a city treasurer. Upon appointment and after confirmation the treasurer shall hold office for an initial term not to exceed one year and until his or her successor is appointed and qualified. Any treasurer who is reappointed shall hold the office of treasurer for terms of no longer than one year each.
